Program Options
PEAK K9s for
Kids has several different program options:
Introduction/performance
program - A 1-3 hour
intro program where the trained PEAK dogs are up front and center,
demonstrating tricks, agility and all that a well trained and cared for dog can
be, while performing an entertaining show with a chance to meet and greet
afterwards and a Q & A period. Discussion of
bite prevention/safety around dogs, humane education topics and positive
reinforcement vs. punishment training practices as well as student
interaction/participation will be incorporated if time and space allows. This can be a stand alone program or as a way
to introduce canine assisted education to your school.
(Pricing is $150-400 per visit
based on equipment use and set up time)
SEE SPOT (13
lesson) Humane Education Program - This is a great option for larger
classes (up to 24 students) where having a humane education class that can
progress over the course of 6 – 13 weeks
is a good fit for the desired learning outcomes. This option consists of up to 13 lessons
which address learning outcomes on topics such as:
- Nonverbal comunitication
- Motiviation
- Impulse Control
- Individual Strenghts
- Tolerance
- Resilliancy
This program utilizes the trained PEAK dogs as well as a
variety of other guest canines to provide the canine interaction. This program is uses the Pawsitive Works
curriculum “S.E.E. Spot” and includes lecture, activities, and hands-on
learning.
Program includes:

Use of the PEAK Dogs (trained education dogs)
·
Use of other visiting canines depending on the
week.
· Up to 15 on-site
PEAK K9 staff hours with students (Up to 360 hours of student program time per
session if the class is utilized to capacity – 24 students x 15 hours each)
·
All supplies (T-shirts will be available for
participants, Student work book, handouts, program supplies including leashes,
collars, harnesses, training treats, toys, cleanup supplies, etc.
·
Liability insurance (a $1 million policy)
·
Data collection instruments to measure program effectiveness
(TO BE IMPLEMENTED FOLLOWING PILOT PROGRAMS ONCE PROGRAM LOGISTICS AND STRUCTURE
ARE ESTABLISHED FOR AN ADDITIONAL FEE)

($300 per unit). While individual units
can be taught, for the best results,The full 6 unit program is highly
recommended)
12 day Intensive
– aka Shelter Dog Program - This 12 session 24 hour program
utilizing shelter dogs (modeled after Kids-N-K9s in TX as well as the pawsitive
works program) is an intensive training program where the
shelter dogs are trained and socialized by the students and the students are
trained in the proper positive training techniques. The program is targeted for youth
13-18 years old who have chronic behavioral or attendance issues or are at-risk
because of ODD, ADHD, PTSD, depression, anger issues, impulse control issues,
poor ability to form or maintain relationships, etc., and consists of:

Up to 8 youth and 4 dogs working in teams of 2
youth per dog
·
4 two-hour sessions per week Monday-Thursday
(approximately 1 hour of dog training and approximately 30 min -1 hour of
processing)
·
3 consecutive weeks
·
18-24 total program hours
·
A graduation ceremony for the youth, parents,
staff, other students, etc.
This
program addresses the following common issues youth need to master to be successful
through experiential learning with the dogs and individual and group
processing:

18-24 on-site KNK9 staff hours with students (Up
to 192 hours of student program time per session if the class is utilized to
capacity – 8 students x 24 hours each)
·
All supplies (T-shirts for participants,
handouts, program supplies including leashes, collars, harnesses, training
treats, toys, cleanup supplies, etc., and graduation supplies including framed
completion certificates and framed pictures for the youth, decorations,
refreshments, etc.)
·
Transportation of up to 4 shelter dogs to the
school each class day
·
A graduation event the final day of the program
·
Liability insurance (a $1 million policy)
·
Data collection instruments to measure program effectiveness

Public recognition for
achievements is important as these youth put in a tremendous amount of work and
grow immensely. A graduation ceremony at the end of the class includes
youth speeches (bring the Kleenex!) about their experience and demonstrations
of what they have taught their dogs. During
graduation, each youth will be presented with a framed diploma and a
framed picture with their dog to celebrate and remember their achievement.
Semester/year
long Humane Education Program - This is a great option for larger
classes (up to 24 students) where having a humane education class on an ongoing,
long term basis is a good fit and/or the option of working with shelter dogs is
not possible. This option consists of
35-50 lessons which address the same learning outcomes as the 12 day intensive
model but utilizes the trained PEAK dogs to provide the canine interaction
rather than shelter dogs. This program
is modeled after the Pawsitively SEL curriculum and includes lecture,
activities, and hands-on learning.
Program includes:

·
Up to 81 on-site PEAK K9 staff hours with
students (Up to 1944 hours of student program time per session if the class is
utilized to capacity – 24 students x 81 hours each)
·
All supplies (T-shirts will be available for
participants, handouts, program supplies including leashes, collars, harnesses,
training treats, toys, cleanup supplies, etc., and graduation supplies
including framed completion certificates and framed pictures for the youth, decorations,
refreshments, etc.)
·
A graduation event the final day of the program
·

·
